A series of free heart-healthy workshops for older adults and the community are being presented by the city of Phoenix Human Services Department Senior Services Division and the Arizona Heart Institute.
A workshop on “Blood Pressure Treatment Option: What You Need to Know” will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, at the Deer Valley Senior Center, 2001 W. Wahalla Lane. Teresa Capriotti, RN, clinic nurse manager at the Arizona Heart Institute, will lead the workshop.
Attendees will learn about the causes of hypertension and risk factors as well as how to lower their risk. Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is when your blood pressure is higher than normal for an extended period of time.
People with high blood pressure are often urged to change their diet, exercise regularly, quit smoking and generally lead less stressful lives. Changing life habits often is easier said than done, so working with your doctor and other health-care providers should be a priority when dealing with high blood pressure. You can partner with them to establish your blood pressure goals.
Space is limited on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, call 602-495-3714.
